Pool Director's Update We're into the heart of the 2010 summer season and the weather has turned out to be fantastic! Our swim team is a week away from Championships and looking primed and ready to defend their championship. Coach Sue has the team working very hard every morning and afternoon! Family Splash Night A Success! The 2010 Family Splash night was a blast! The evening was filled with water balloon tosses, scavenger hunts, limbo competitions, and bingo games. The hit of the evening was the "Greasy Watermelon Competition" where the club adults squared off against the Minnechaug lifeguards and staff. Although the lifeguards were thoroughly overpowered, they gave a great effort nonetheless. The grand finale of the evening was a big splash competition. Splashes were scored by a panel of 4 lifeguard judges. Many thanks to Mary Ellen Cody for organizing another successful Family Splash Night! 2010 Minnechaug Triathlon Minnechaug recently held the first annual "Minnechaug Triathlon" for kids ages 8-13. Triathletes swam, biked, and ran around a designated course at the club. All participants had a blast. Here are names of the top three finishers in each heat: Heat 1 (Seniors): 1. Sean Martin 2. Ryan Kaelin 3. Jim McDonough Heat 2 (Juniors): 1. Ben Harris 2. Katlyn Eagan 3. Arjun Katechia Adult Early Morning Swim Sessions! Calling all adults! Starting the week of August 16th, we'll be having "Adult Swim Hours" from 6-8 every morning. Two lifeguards will be covering the swim sessions and will be available to critique your swimming and give advice on any questions you have. Swimmers of all abilities are welcome and encouraged to take advantage of this excellent fitness opportunity. 3:00 Games and Crafts While the adults get their swimming on, kids can partake in daily games and craft activities run by our lifeguard staff. So far, we've had ring toss games, sandal picture frame decorating, magic sand crafts, paper airplane contests, water balloon baseball, and more! So...when you hear the 3:00 adult swim whistle, get ready for some "out of this water" fun! Basketball League The club directors have created a summer basketball league for Woodledge, Minnechaug, Pinebrook, and Orchard Hill members. Games will be played Monday nights. Sign up sheets are posted on the club bulletin board. The teams are as follows: 6th, 7th, 8th grade (JV Division) : 6:00 P.M. 9th - 12th grade (Varsity Division) : 7:00 P.M If you're interested in volunteering to coach, ref, or keep score please contact me! It's been great meeting many of the members of Minnechaug! I'm still trying to match names and faces, so please be patient with me! Here is a list of my main responsibilities as club manager. - Scheduling parties and collecting party request forms. Please send your checks to the pool treasurer.
- Assisting important social events and gatherings, as well as calling swim meets.
